Nobel Fire Systems keep heat on Nando’s Peri-Peri Chicken
Nando’s, famous throughout the world for its flamed grilled Peri-Peri Chicken has turned to Nobel Fire Systems to keep the flames where they need to be – on the food and not elsewhere in the kitchen. With 190 outlets throughout the UK, 52 in London alone, Nando’s is acutely aware of its health and safety responsibilities. In the bustling, energetic environment of commercial kitchens, fire prevention and protection is high on the list of requirements. That’s why Nando’s has chosen Nobel Fire Systems as one of its preferred partners for Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems. Paul Claricoats, Equipment Maintenance Manager for Nando’s, commented; “The unique risks inherent in commercial catering for large numbers of people are more than taken care of by the Nobel K-Series system which is now installed in a significant number of our UK outlets. Protection is to the highest possible standards and the system can be installed with appreciable savings in both time and cost”. The system fitted across the Nando’s outlets is Nobel Fire System’s K-Series, one of the UK’s premier wet chemicals kitchen fire suppression systems. The K-Series provides Nando’s with full protection to all cooking appliances, extract canopy and duct work. Maintaining the individuality of the restaurants is a critical part of Nando's brand identity. Every Nando’s restaurant has its own identification based on the practicalities of the site and on the people who will be visiting. It was therefore important that the Nobel system met all the aesthetic qualities required as well as being fitted quickly and efficiently by Nobel Fire Systems installation teams.

No Kitchen Nightmares in Ramsay’s first pub
Gordon Ramsay’s first pub, The Narrow in London’s Limehouse (44 Narrow Street, London E14 8DP) is located in a Grade II-listed building on the banks of the Thames. The Narrow serves classic British dishes in a unique and relaxed environment. Before opening for business, the restaurant which was formerly a Spirit pub was completely modernised, with particular emphasis being placed on the kitchen environment. As part of the work programme, health and safety issues were naturally scrutinised as pub and restaurant kitchens pose unique fire risks, gathering large numbers of customers at one time while engaging in cooking activities that inherently pose the risk of fire. The fire suppression system already in place was the Nobel K-Series, one of the UK’s premier wet chemicals kitchen fire suppression systems supplied by Nobel Fire Systems Ltd. This was removed while the rest of the modernisation programme began to take place. However, once the general work had been completed, the decision was taken to reinstall the Nobel K-Series because it was felt that it was still ‘best in class’ in terms of providing full protection to all cooking appliances, extract canopy and duct work. Not only that, the K-Series met the aesthetic qualities of the newly refurbished kitchen meeting the demanding appearance, functionality and hygiene criteria set out by the refurbishment team.

Nobel protects St Barnabas Church
Nobel Fire Systems undertook an installation of both our K-Series Kitchen Fire Suppression System and our Anaximene system in May this year at St Barnabas Church restaurant/ training centre. The centre in Dartmouth's former Church (Grade 2 listed) is the first project outside London for the social enterprise charity Training For Life, which offers new opportunities for unemployed and homeless people. The kitchen is open plan, so smells are a major factor hence the requirement for an odour control system such as our Anaximene system. Also due to the nature of the project and the site both the cost and space were tight and with our system being around a third cheaper than alternatives and also relatively compact it was the ideal choice.

Halton Marine picks Nobel Fire Systems in market review
Founded in Finland in 1969, Halton Marine is renowned for manufacturing and marketing reliable, high quality ventilation solutions for the demanding international marine market. Ever mindful of the needs of ship owners and operators, recent changes to SOLAS requirements led Halton Marine to review the market to look for a partner who could provide optimum efficiency in terms of cutting installation and commissioning time on board while meeting the requirements of ISO 15371 with regard to galley fire suppression. Following exhaustive discussions with leading suppliers, Halton Marine chose to work with Nobel Fire Systems and its K-5 fire suppression system. K-5 is a fully independent system that is electrically actuated and uses spot heat detectors to detect fire conditions. Detectors are sited directly over the appliance being protected or alternatively in the extract air flow above the appliance. Cooking appliances can be individually protected or multiple systems can be configured to meet specific needs. Nobel Fire Systems have worked closely with Halton to achieve a fire suppression system that together with Halton hoods provide an outstanding solution to on-board safety and health issues in the galley. Installation of the K-5 fire suppression system into the galley hood is carried out at the factory providing owners and operators with direct savings on board. Design is simple and compact with no high pressure gas cartridges and no mechanical pulleys, tensioners, levers or spring loaded plungers. The system facilitates real time monitoring for fire and fault conditions.
